Catalogue de l’exposition éponyme, qui s’est tenue au Musée alsacien, Strasbourg, du 09 juin 2023 au 01 avril 2024. Après ses travaux sur la Bretagne et le Pays basque, Charles Fréger se tourne vers l'Alsace, un territoire riche en histoire et en symboles. À travers une combinaison de photographies, vidéos, céramiques et films d'animation, il interroge la frontière entre tradition folklorique et propagande. Son projet Souvenir d'Alsace, né d'une résidence au Musée alsacien, explore les costumes régionaux et la construction de l'identité alsacienne, tout en revisitant l’histoire complexe de la région. L'artiste y propose un discours critique sur l'utilisation des images dans la définition des identités, entre nostalgie et politique.
Catalogue of the exhibition of the same name, held at the Musée Alsacien, Strasbourg, from 9 June 2023 to 1 April 2024. After his work on Brittany and the Basque Country, Charles Fréger turns his attention to Alsace, a region rich in history and symbolism. Through a combination of photographs, videos, ceramics, and animated films, he questions the boundary between folk tradition and propaganda. His project Souvenir d'Alsace, born out of a residency at the Musée Alsacien, explores regional costumes and the construction of Alsatian identity, while revisiting the complex history of the region. The artist offers a critical discourse on the use of images in the definition of identities, between nostalgia and politics. |
