| Résumé : | Despite significant advances in women's rights in Morocco, women continue to face substantial societal pressure and discrimination regarding their clothing choices. In that way, this research thesis aims to understand how garments such as trousers and miniskirts interact with these pressures and their potential as symbols of empowerment. Through a qualitative approach involving semi-structured interviews, the findings reveal that Moroccan women face strong social pressure to conform to gender-normative dress standards, resulting in a certain invisibility of their bodies. The results also indicate that while trousers have become more accepted, they often blend into conservative dress codes. Miniskirts remain controversial and provocative. Neither garment alone serves as the ultimate feminist symbol in Morocco. However, the study identified that the true feminist attire is characterized by the freedom of choice with the possibility to distinguish yourself and confidence in wearing it while opening new avenues for future research on the role of garments like swimsuits in promoting female empowerment in Morocco. This thesis finally highlights the crucial role of Moroccan youth in driving social change and redefining dress norms to emancipate women in the coming years. |
