Numéro spécial, paru à l'occasion de l'exposition éponyme qui s'est tenue au Musée du Louvre, Paris, du 15 octobre 2025 au 26 janvier 2026. À travers la peinture de Jacques-Louis David, le numéro retrace les années de la Révolution et de l’Empire comme un vaste récit historique et artistique. Du Serment des Horaces à La Mort de Marat puis au Sacre de Napoléon, il met en lumière le parcours d’un peintre néoclassique engagé au cœur des événements. Ce numéro interroge la position de l’artiste face au pouvoir et à l’histoire, entre engagement politique et témoignage artistique.
Special issue published to coincide with the exhibition of the same name held at the Louvre Museum, Paris, from October 15, 2025, to January 26, 2026. Through the paintings of Jacques-Louis David, this issue retraces the years of the Revolution and the Empire as a vast historical and artistic narrative. From The Oath of the Horatii to The Death of Marat and The Coronation of Napoleon, it highlights the career of a neoclassical painter who was deeply involved in the events of his time. This issue examines the artist's position in relation to power and history, between political commitment and artistic testimony. |
