Exposition qui s'est tenue aux Galeries nationales du Grand Palais à Paris du 7 octobre au 16 décembre 1985 et à la Royal Academy of arts de Londres du 16 janvier au 30 mars 1986. Le catalogue présente la vie et l’œuvre du peintre britannique, spécialiste du portrait et premier président de la Royal Academy. Il retrace sa carrière, son rôle dans l’évolution de la peinture anglaise et son influence artistique.
