Catalogue de l'exposition éponyme qui s'est tenue à la Tate Britain, à Londres, du 4 mars au 25 mai 2020, et au musée d'Orsay, à Paris, du 16 juin au 13 septembre 2020. Aubrey Beardsley (1872-1898), célèbre pour ses illustrations de Salomé d’Oscar Wilde, a développé en seulement sept ans une œuvre graphique intense et novatrice. Ses dessins en noir et blanc, marqués par la décadence, l’érotisme et le grotesque, exercèrent une influence majeure sur l’Art nouveau puis sur la culture visuelle psychédélique des années 1960. Cet ouvrage réunit des essais consacrés à sa carrière ainsi qu’un riche ensemble de reproductions de ses œuvres les plus marquantes.
Catalog of the exhibition of the same name held at Tate Britain in London from March 4 to May 25, 2020, and at the Musée d’Orsay in Paris from June 16 to September 13, 2020. Aubrey Beardsley (1872–1898), famous for his illustrations of Oscar Wilde’s *Salomé*, developed an intense and innovative body of graphic work in just seven years. His black-and-white drawings, marked by decadence, eroticism, and the grotesque, exerted a major influence on Art Nouveau and later on the psychedelic visual culture of the 1960s. This volume brings together essays devoted to his career as well as a rich collection of reproductions of his most striking works. |
