(Note de l'éditeur)
"Design in Africa" invites us to travel the continent to discover 50 designers who awaken our senses with their creative power. African design is the plural expression of the multiple cultures that characterize this continent, the expression of its youth, its creativity, its extraordinary resources and its incredible potential. Through their works, African designers bear witness to the history of their respective countries and express a mixture of African and Western cultures. They are inspired by everyday objects, and transform them for alternative uses. They are also distinguished by the participation of local craftsmen in the production of their creations. Design then becomes synonymous with an act of solidarity, which combines creation, industry and craftsmanship. The texts of the two co-authors retrace the history of design in Africa, evoking the emergence of artists and the particularities of the continent. The authors will bring their vision on this formidable dynamism. Africa is making its way and this book is a testament to this for design. |
