"I have forgotten the night" is the title of Joël Andrianomearisoa's work, which is presented at the first Madagascar Pavilion at the 2019 Venice Biennale. A monumental work of black tissue paper that accumulates in a series of huge superimposed shots. "I have forgotten the night" is, likewise, the title of the book, which is both a catalogue of the Biennale and a monograph of the artist. It covers more than twenty years of artistic practice. In fact much more than all this, it is an artist's book that is an integral part of his work. As it does whenever the printed paper can be associated with the form presented. The particular talent of Joël Andrianomearisoa (born in 1977) is rooted in his country, Madagascar, and more particularly his city Antananarivo. He develops a world of his own as a result of his architectural studies in France and his experiences in all media including show costumes as well as the one to be worn. Flat or in space, performance, video, graphic design, drawing, painting, photography and especially his large volumes of paper or textiles that invade the space and imagination of each one. |
