Résumé : | As fashion is entering a new virtual realm, what is the role of independent fashion media in the metaverse? While the discourse around fashion and the metaverse has been mainly focused on being a potential goldmine, very few media talk about it in a more profound way. With the help of desk research, interviews, observations and finally, my personal experimentation, I tried come up with my own solution: Morphose is a digital media exploring the influence the Metaverse has on fashion, culture and identity. It raises questions around inclusivity and accessibility in this new world, but also celebrates it as a playground and fuel for creativity and talent. As knowledge around the metaverse varies, I chose to develop a media that can evolve with the mainstream public: As they become more accustomed to the metaverse, Morphose can become more specialised. The media itself will live exclusively online, reimagining what a virtual magazine could look like. In its Issue Zero, Morphose dissects the idea of digital inclusivity within the metaverse by giving new spins on old narratives. Three specials have been produced exclusively for the media, revolving around the topics of NFTs, digital and in-game fashion, new technologies and the online communities interested in them. Moreover, I have talked to three inspiring digital creatives to share their visions on their work and what digital inclusivity means to them. By getting in contact with talent for possible collaborations, I also realised a big conundrum for an independent media about the metaverse. Most of the work is 3D graphics – work that is very time- and cost-intensive – therefore not necessarily affordable for a small media. Partly through the collaboration with Sheriff Projects and partly by developing my own 3D skills, I finally brought my ideas to life. |
